Membership benefits

All plot holders have to become members of the society, but you don't have to have a plot on site to be a member. Membership is open to family members of plot holders, trusted friends and volunteers who wish to support the society. Members, at the discretion of the plot holder can come on site and help out the plot holder in the upkeep of the plot or the site in general.

Before you apply

Before you apply for an allotment you should consider whether it's the right thing for you.  It's a proven fact that allotment gardening is good for you, both physically and for mental well-being, but working your own plot does take a degree of commitment that shouldn't be under estimated.  When a plot becomes available, it's often been left for some time.  The previous tenant may have given up the plot for various reasons, but mainly you will find it's because they were unable to keep it maintained to a suitable standard;  Often because their circumstances have changed and they couldn't commitment the time, or because of ill health.  Plots don't come up often and when they do they are quickly snapped up!

One thing is certain.  If you are offered a plot it's unlikely to be ready for cultivation that season and you shouldn't underestimate the amount of time it may take you to get it ready for sowing. Maintaining a plot week to week can be done in just take a couple of visits a week, but getting to that point, cultivation and the battle with nature takes upfront commitment.

Important! As a plot holder you will be required to maintain your plot to a reasonable, cultivated standard each year or risk loosing your plot.
